moonfruit does not support .me extensions, but i want my website to be on the .me one instead of the .com…

on 123 reg, they have things called Full DNS control, which then says “Domain names bought through us can be pointed to any website of your choice. So you don’t need to have a 123-reg website to benefit from our great value domains.”

does that mean if someone goes to the .me website, they would automatically go to the .com version???

Yes – this sounds like domain forwarding.

I used to use this (also on 123-reg).

I used this to forward my domain to my personal webspace provided by my ISP.

It worked fine and anyone who went to my domain name would actually be looking at my personal webspace.

It worked great and did exactly what you suggest.

It has been suggested in the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) community that a server’s location may possibly affect your regional rankings in Google – which makes sense.

For Example: if you have a site based in the USA with a .com ending that describes something in the UK, having your site hosted IN the UK with a .co.uk domain most likely will increase your relevance in google.co.uk rankings.

As a good rule of thumb, great sites make for great rankings.

So take the time, get a content person fully in charge of this to create and frequently post different content for the UK site that is tailored for that region. You can even do UK based advertising if the site is made in such a way that would not take away from its functionality.

Most SEO ideology is really just common sense when you think back on it. Of COURSE its better to have something in the market where people are looking for it. The hard part is IDENTIFYING the market and targeting it.

I’ve built a site with PHP 5, MySQL on my localhost it’s all about user-submitted articles. I’m hoping to grow a community and keep articles stored in the database for a long time. So disk space is a much. I’m not expecting high volumes of traffic instantly but I’d like to have enough for the site to scale. My site send email’s via SMTP so the host must allow that too. Security is important so I’m going to need SSL certificated and a web hosting company that update’s its server often and has a reputable history. I require .co.uk and .com domain names yet I’d like the shared server to be in the UK because this is faster I believe (not sure)? I’d like to run cron jobs to back the site up.
